Benchmade, an Oregon City–based maker of knives and tools founded in 1987, faced scaling challenges after sustained double-digit growth. Heavy reliance on manual order and invoice entry threatened order accuracy and response times, so the company sought to automate EDI processing and better integrate high-volume trading partners with its SYSPRO ERP.
Benchmade implemented SPS Commerce Fulfillment for SYSPRO to automate orders and invoices for its largest retailers while keeping lower-volume partners on the existing web-based EDI. The change saved more than 780 staff hours in the first year, improved order accuracy and eliminated delays, freed employees for other projects, and set the company up to capture another estimated 2,080 hours annually (including ~8 hours/week per partner) through further automation.
