Balance Bar - Customer Case Study

Balance Bar, a pioneer in the nutrition/energy bar category founded in 1992, was sold by Kraft Foods in late 2009 and faced a fixed May 2010 deadline to take over its own supply chain operations. The company needed to rapidly implement EDI to connect ~70 trading partners and integrate with Microsoft Dynamics NAV, but had a lean IT staff and required a provider with prebuilt mappings, NAV expertise and outsourced EDI management.

SPS Commerce implemented SPSCommerce.net with a Dynamics NAV adapter and WebForms for lower‑volume customers, integrating major retailers (Costco, Kroger, Safeway, Target, Trader Joe’s, Wal‑Mart, etc.) plus a 3PL and 3PW using automated EDI 940/945 messages. The rapid cutover met the May 2010 deadline, automated order cycles and invoicing, smoothed trading‑partner relationships, and has enabled ongoing expansion of partner connections.
