A Spryker Case Study

METRO Helps to Provide Retailers with new Possibilities

METRO, via its in‑house tech unit METRONOM, needed to digitize its B2B wholesale business and deliver mass‑personalization for diverse customer groups (HoReCa, small offices, and independent traders). To achieve a scalable, omnichannel, B2C‑style shopping experience, METRO partnered with Spryker and adopted the Spryker Cloud Commerce OS and its GLUE API in an API‑first, headless architecture.

Spryker implemented a standardized API‑based back end and front‑end trader shop that supports 1:1 international shop deployments with local adaptations, delivering features like Sales Assistant, Corporate Account management, state‑machine workflows and Catalog Management. The pilot launched in Romania with initial success and—according to METRO—positions the retailer to scale faster across markets, improving customer personalization, operational flexibility and internationalization.
