Case Study: Scratch DJ Academy centralizes and scales its location‑based eCommerce with Spree Commerce

A Spree Commerce Case Study

Preview of the Scratch DJ Academy Case Study

Scratch chose Spree for their community based eCommerce platform

Scratch DJ Academy, founded in 2002 by Jam Master Jay and Rob Principe, operates six U.S. locations and has taught over 500,000 DJs and producers. As Scratch expanded, it faced an untraditional eCommerce challenge: time‑ and location‑sensitive course inventory (six terms a year, redeemable only within 30 miles), high‑price point sales, and fragmented, employee‑held processes across sales, marketing, metrics, inventory and scheduling.

To centralize and scale operations Scratch implemented Spree Commerce on a Ruby on Rails stack (with Bootstrap, jQuery and integrations like Google Calendar, a JSON CMS API, CRM pipeline and Affirm for financing). The platform consolidated workflows, automated payments and scheduling, eliminated manual bill collection, and supported continued growth across six academies while serving a global community of students.
