Case Study: Packhelp achieves a fast-to-market 3D custom-packaging e‑commerce platform with Spree Commerce

A Spree Commerce Case Study

Preview of the Packhelp Case Study

Packhelp uses Spree to allow eCommerce owners to design and order their own custom packaging online

Packhelp, founded in Warsaw in 2015, lets e‑commerce businesses and agencies design and order fully custom‑branded packaging in small runs. Serving 5,000 customers across 29 countries with about 600 orders a day and €2M in seed funding, the team faced the challenge of moving quickly to market without reinventing core e‑commerce functionality while still delivering a unique 3D packaging experience.

They chose Ruby on Rails with the Spree e‑commerce engine for a ready API and extensible backend, and built a React single‑page app using WebGL/Three.js for an intuitive 3D box editor. The result is a fast, API‑driven platform where users can design packaging in minutes and place orders (minimum 30 pieces, delivered within 14 days), enabling rapid development, smooth scaling, and a strong go‑to‑market outcome.
