Brandless reinvented everyday shopping by selling better-for-you essentials at a flat $3 price to eliminate the traditional “brand tax.” Launched in July 2017 with 115 curated items (now over 200), the company’s challenge was to build a direct-to-consumer online store that delivered top-brand quality and simplicity—one product choice, one size—without the overhead of conventional retail.
To meet that challenge Brandless built a custom Spree-powered storefront using React, Redux, Rails and TypeScript, adding unique product bundling and the B.More membership. The platform shipped to 48 states in its first week, handled heavy traffic and sellouts while remaining fast and stable, earned TechCrunch and Today Show coverage, and has sustained rapid growth and financial success.
