A Spredfast Case Study

Preview of the United States Olympic Committee Case Study

How the USOC amplified the 2014 Winter Olympics

The United States Olympic Committee (USOC) partnered with Spredfast to create a single, responsive social media hub for the Sochi 2014 Winter Olympic Games to tap into the global conversation, grow its audience, and keep fans engaged across onsite, online and mobile channels. The core challenge was combining real-time event coverage and direct athlete engagement into one integrated experience that amplified Team USA content versus prior Games.

Spredfast launched Social.TeamUSA.org with a real-time medal tracker, Social Spotlight, personalized "My Social Podium," a live “Motivational Wall” in USA House, and #AskTeamUSA athlete Q&A sessions, all accessible from TeamUSA.org. The hub drove major lift: content consumption was 21% higher than London 2012 (250% higher than Vancouver 2010), about 1.01 billion impressions and 1.24 million #TeamUSA mentions, 107,028 new Twitter followers, 2.9 million unique visitors (14.4 million page views), a 72,630 TPM peak, and a Facebook post that reached 25× comparable pages.
