Hollister set out to boost brand equity and social buzz by creating a shared, social-first experience that would rally customers around the brand and drive traffic to an interactive destination. Their objective was to spark authentic word-of-mouth, increase awareness, and encourage purchases by offering a limited promotional product unlocked through social participation.

Partnering with Spredfast, Hollister ran a “flock-to-unlock” campaign using Twitter and Facebook centered on the #InHollister hashtag, a progress bar and real-time social feed that unlocked a discounted t‑shirt once participation thresholds were met. The campaign generated over 40,000 tweets (a 600% rise in mentions), drove a 45% increase in online sales, sold 98% of campaign inventory, and accounted for 44% of total sales during the promotion.
