A SPREAD Case Study
The customer, a European passenger-rail OEM, faced a bottleneck in its bid desk process. The challenge was not the volume of requests for quotation (RFQs) but the immense depth of analysis required for each one, which consumed approximately 13,000 engineering hours per RFQ and was bottlenecked by senior-engineer time. The vendor SPREAD implemented its Requirements Manager, a knowledge graph designed to ingest and analyze historical and current RFQ data.
SPREAD's solution classified requirements, revealing that 55% were cleanly covered by existing solutions, 37% were partially covered, and only 8% required net-new engineering. This did not reduce the total ~325,000 annual engineering hours but redistributed them, reframing the work from search-and-synthesize to evaluate-and-adjust and concentrating senior engineering effort where it was most needed. The key measurable impact was a fundamental shift in the bid process from throughput to depth.
