Ind reduces misplaced medical device losses and theft risks with SpotSee RFID

The customer, a medical equipment user referred to as Ind, faced challenges with the mishandling, misplacement, and theft of sophisticated medical devices during transit and while in service within hospitals. This mishandling risked damaging the sensitive equipment, potentially putting patients at risk and leading to significant financial losses. To address this, they worked with vendor SpotSee and implemented its ShockWatch RFID impact indicators.

SpotSee's solution provided three levels of protection: a visual damage alert, an automatic electronic record of impacts via RFID, and a theft deterrent. The ShockWatch RFID tags automatically tracked equipment as it passed readers, integrating with the facility's inventory system. This resulted in fewer lost or misplaced devices, reduced theft, and the ability to pinpoint and address damaging events. For one facility, the solution helped recover $520,000 worth of misplaced equipment, and it also helped prevent multi-million dollar thefts, leading to significant savings and more efficient operations for the customer.
