Case Study: City of Sydney reduces carbon emissions with Spotless Group’s trigeneration power system

The City of Sydney needed a low-carbon energy solution for Sydney Town Hall and the adjacent Town Hall House, while preserving the requirements of a heritage-listed site and minimizing disruption to occupants. Spotless Group, through its technical and engineering provider AE Smith, was selected to design, construct, operate, and maintain a gas-fired microturbine trigeneration power system.

Spotless Group delivered a 1,400 kW trigeneration system featuring seven 200 kW Capstone microturbines, providing power, heating, and cooling and feeding into the grid — the first system of its kind in New South Wales. The solution is expected to cut more than 40,000 tonnes of carbon emissions over 30 years, with offsite manufacturing and complex rooftop installation helping reduce onsite impact and keep disruption low.
