Bayer Crop Sciences cultivates analytics for crops, seeds, and digital farming

Bayer Crop Science, a division of Bayer, faced the challenge of integrating and analyzing vast amounts of data from various sources within its R&D and digital farming operations. Their goal was to create an end-to-end data pipeline to combine information on crop protection, seeds, and traits to provide tailored solutions for farmers. They turned to TIBCO's Spotfire visual analytics and Data Virtualization software to get users closer to their data and unify disparate data sources without altering them.

The implemented TIBCO solution provided a scalable and performant platform for analytics, enabling the use of AI for image analysis from drones to monitor crops and understand plant traits. The results were significant, with Spotfire user adoption growing from 40 users to 14,000. TIBCO's tools helped standardize statistical models, leading to more consistent analyses, and supported Bayer's FAIR data principles, making data findable, accessible, and reusable. This empowered the company to make more precise planting and resource decisions, improving efficiency and reducing the use of pesticides and fertilizers.
