Spotinst Helps Wonderbly Keep Costs Down Even During Intense Holiday Scaling

Wonderbly, a personalized children’s books company that lets customers preview fully personalized books online and ships worldwide, faced steep cost spikes from compute-heavy rendering during the holiday season. To control those costs without disrupting their workflows, Wonderbly turned to Spot, using Elastigroup and the Spot Terraform Provider to manage Spot Instances for their rendering workloads.

Spot implemented Elastigroup and a Terraform-based migration so Wonderbly could spin up large fleets of Spot Instances quickly and reliably; environments that might have taken months were running in days. The result was a 75–80% reduction in EC2 spend, scaling rendering from 0.3 to 40 books per minute (about 1,100 books in under an hour for $0.48 USD), letting Wonderbly handle peak demand affordably while preserving environment integrity.
