FindHotel, an Amsterdam-based travel metasearch company, faced rising EC2 costs for its mission-critical Rates and Availability API running on Amazon ECS. CTO German Gomez-Herrero wanted to leverage Spot Instances for major savings but feared the operational overhead of building custom autoscaling, interruption handling, and high-availability logic — especially given the lack of SLAs for raw Spot capacity. He evaluated Spot and its Elastigroup for ECS solution to address those concerns.

Spot’s Elastigroup for ECS automated instance provisioning, intelligent autoscaling (including “Tetris” task placement) and buffer management, and integrated with FindHotel’s Terraform workflows for rapid migration. As a result, FindHotel moved its ECS workloads to a mix of Spot and On‑Demand instances with an enterprise SLA, achieving a 70% reduction in cloud compute spend, ~90% instance utilization, faster time-to-value, and clearer container-level cost visibility.
