Clockwork Solutions Saves 86% on Non-GovCloud EC2 costs by Running Kubernetes + Rancher with Elastigroup

Clockwork, a provider of maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) consulting for industrial and defense assets, needed to cut rising AWS development environment costs and better manage Kubernetes infrastructure as they upgraded Rancher to 2.0. They evaluated Spot and adopted Spot’s Elastigroup to leverage Spot Instances and automated scaling for their Kubernetes-based dev workloads.

Spot implemented Elastigroup via a Spot Controller in the cluster and the Ocean SaaS to predict capacity, reschedule pods, and apply “Tetris” scaling and smart scale‑down logic. The integration was completed in days alongside the Rancher 2.0 rollout, allowing Clockwork to move its dev workloads to Kubernetes and reduce non‑GovCloud EC2 costs by 86% while maintaining automated, resilient scaling — all delivered by Spot.
