Tesco partnered with Spoon Guru to tackle the challenge of helping shoppers make healthier choices in a way that was simple, affordable, and easy to understand. With obesity rates rising and many customers believing healthier food is more expensive, Tesco needed a solution that could reduce confusion, support better eating habits, and fit naturally into the online shopping journey.

Spoon Guru implemented Smart Swaps, a web and mobile web recommender that shows like-for-like healthier alternatives at the same price point or cheaper while customers shop. The feature made healthier options easy to compare and select, and early testing showed the Healthy Swaps MVP achieved Add To Basket rates comparable to Tesco’s top-performing “Usually bought Next” recommender, indicating strong customer engagement with the new experience.
