A Spoon Guru Case Study
Schnucks, a progressive family-owned supermarket retailer with over 100 stores in the Midwest USA, wanted to launch its Good for You programme to help customers make healthier choices more easily and sustainably, whatever their budget. The challenge was defining healthier foods in the absence of clear US nutritional guidance, overcoming misleading packaging claims and product data issues, and building trust in “Good For You” products from day one. Schnucks worked with Spoon Guru, using Product TAGs® and in-house nutritionists.
Spoon Guru collected, enhanced and evaluated product data for all foods sold at Schnucks stores, then applied category-based nutrition rules built from FDA, USDA, DGA, My Plate and AHA guidance through its AI platform. The result was a transparent, accurate Good For You list with over 5,000 suitable products identified, around 2.1 million data points processed daily, 36 rule groups created, and 20% of the annual acquisition target achieved in the first two weeks. Spoon Guru also helped drive a 50% sustained email open rate for the monthly Good For You email, the highest of Schnucks’ regular emails.
