A SPM Assets Case Study
Wellington City Council faced the significant challenge of managing its $750 million property portfolio, which was decaying at a rate of $2 million per week. The council needed to move from reactive to evidence-based decision-making and long-term planning for its assets, including 2,200 social houses and units. To address this, they partnered with vendor SPM Assets to implement its asset management software and services as a foundational step towards their larger digital city and BIM goals.
SPM Assets provided an end-to-end solution, project managing the condition assessment and data collection. Their software was configured to the council’s standards and used to systematically collect, process, and enrich asset data. This enabled advanced analytics and reporting, which SPM Assets supported. The results were substantial, with Wellington City Council reducing its infrastructure renewal spend by approximately $100 million in its long-term plan. The council now has a clear, evidence-based 30-year infrastructure plan and a solid foundation for its ongoing Building Information Modeling project.
