University of Southern Queensland’s 80/80/20 approach to making Asset Management work

The University of Southern Queensland (USQ) needed to move beyond basic maintenance and implement a long-term, strategic approach to manage its extensive portfolio of buildings and land. Their challenges included gaining internal support for a planned approach, expanding their asset data, and aligning their team with new processes and accountabilities. To achieve this, USQ engaged vendor SPM Assets to provide an Asset Management as a Service solution.

SPM Assets implemented a comprehensive solution aligned with industry standards, which included a facilitated strategy workshop, a detailed condition assessment of all facilities, and the development of a new Asset Management Plan. They established a data model within SPM Assets software and set up quarterly metrics based on an 80/80/20 approach to track progress. The results provided USQ with robust, evidence-based analytics and reports, creating more certainty for funding and budgeting. The Campus Services team gained ownership of the data and tools, enabling them to confidently justify planned projects.
