Mangere Refugee Resettlement Centre - Customer Case Study

The Mangere Refugee Resettlement Centre, on behalf of Immigration New Zealand, required a new facility but faced the common industry challenge of unpredictable long-term operating costs. Their goal was to replace an outdated building using a whole-of-life approach to avoid future budget overruns. They engaged vendor SPM Assets to integrate Building Information Modelling (BIM) processes into the tender to forecast lifecycle expenditures and ensure design choices balanced upfront costs with long-term performance.

SPM Assets provided the solution by developing detailed asset management requirements and creating information models for the preliminary designs. This allowed the client to select cost-effective materials, plan for wear and tear, and establish accurate long-term budgets from the outset. The results included a detailed and accurate operational asset register upon completion and the ability to perform scenario planning for last-minute government requests, ensuring the facility was delivered with a clear understanding of its total cost of ownership for the next 30 years.
