A SPM Assets Case Study
SPM Assets worked with a large local government organisation in New South Wales to address a strategic challenge. The council, responsible for a $3.0 billion property portfolio, needed to move beyond traditional maintenance focused solely on physical condition. Their goal was to develop a new assessment programme to ensure their assets, such as sports facilities, libraries, and childcare centres, were also functionally relevant to meet evolving community needs, all while operating on a limited budget.
The solution from SPM Assets involved a collaborative process using their asset planning software and a methodology based on industry best practices. This included conducting workshops and in-field assessments to evaluate both the Condition Grade Index and Facility Functionality Index of over 1,000 buildings. As a result, the council gained a centralized data system to make evidence-based decisions, allowing them to strategically prioritize works programmes and budgets. SPM Assets enabled the council to understand the full cost of bringing assets up to standard and, most importantly, to ensure its facilities are practical, usable, and fit for purpose for the community.
