Zillow Gains Real-Time Enterprise-Wide Visibility Into Site Operations

Zillow Group — owner of Zillow, Trulia and other real-estate brands — needed full operational visibility across a widely distributed infrastructure that generated massive volumes of log data. Existing homegrown and open-source monitoring tools couldn’t scale, logs weren’t standardized, alerting was poor or nonexistent, and siloed data made troubleshooting slow and error-prone, threatening uptime and service quality.

Zillow deployed Splunk Enterprise (starting in 2013 and later expanding to an enterprise agreement and planned Splunk Cloud use), standardizing log management and giving 300+ teams self-service access to dashboards, alerts and ad hoc queries. The result was real-time, enterprise-wide visibility, faster incident isolation and resolution, improved DevOps collaboration and uptime, and a better customer website experience.
