University of Adelaide Gains Operational Visibility, Enhances Incident Detection and Resolution

The University of Adelaide, a leading Australian university with about 3,500 staff and 25,000 students across four campuses, faced an expanding, disparate IT environment and a steady stream of security threats—especially phishing—that made incident detection and response slow and resource‑intensive for its Information Technology Services team.

Partnering with SecureWare, the university deployed Splunk Enterprise on a centralized high‑spec server to ingest roughly 140 GB/day of machine data and provide single‑pane dashboards (including apps for Palo Alto and Citrix) and a custom “UniSpace” facilities app. The deployment cut investigation time from hours to minutes, saved hundreds of security‑analyst hours annually, improved uptime and service continuity, enabled granular internet‑cost monitoring, and delivered broader operational visibility for planning.
