A Splunk Case Study
Progressive Insurance needed to expand visibility across its security, IT, and engineering environments to prevent costly outages and ensure customers could access critical services during emergencies. Their existing tools were insufficient, particularly for cloud platforms, and their security operations center was overwhelmed with alerts. To address this, they turned to Splunk, specifically the Splunk Observability Suite and Splunk Enterprise Security.
By implementing Splunk's solutions, including Application Performance Monitoring (APM) and risk-based alerting (RBA) in Splunk Enterprise Security, Progressive gained full-fidelity observability and security. This allowed them to significantly reduce alert noise, prioritize serious threats, and capture 8 million traces and 50 million spans without performance impact. The results protected their $120 billion market capitalization by preventing service disruptions, with monitoring tools adding only a 10-millisecond page response delay.
