A Splunk Case Study
NetHope is a consortium of nearly 60 leading NGOs that coordinates communications and connectivity during disasters and refugee crises so aid agencies can deliver life‑saving services faster. As it scaled, NetHope struggled with outdated and fragmented network data, no centralized network operations capability, and disparate device logs and formats — making it hard to track deployed networks, measure whether connectivity programs were reaching people, or plan network growth.
Using Splunk for Good (Splunk Enterprise), NetHope centralized and analyzed network and device data, built a virtual network operations center, and monitored roughly 300 networks in the field. The solution enabled data‑driven network planning, real‑time status maps for member agencies, in‑depth tracking of content access, and rapid responses to data requests — outcomes demonstrated in responses like Puerto Rico (Wi‑Fi at 90 locations) and the Syrian Refugee Connectivity Alliance (Internet and charging stations in 76 camps serving ~500,000 users).
