Television New Zealand (TVNZ), the state-owned broadcaster behind TVNZ 1, 2, DUKE and streaming service TVNZ OnDemand, needed to speed up product innovation but was constrained by an in-house feature-flag system and manual A/B test processes. Those workflows forced DevOps and analysts to manage flags and cohorts, lacked proper randomization and statistical rigor, and limited experimentation to one test every few months.
TVNZ implemented Split to centralize feature flags and automate experimentation across server and client, with randomized targeting, real-time metrics and Segment integration for cleaner data pipelines. The platform removed manual steps, enabled many concurrent experiments, accelerated rollouts and rollbacks, saved engineering and analyst time, and gave the team the confidence to iterate, remove legacy features, and make data-driven product decisions.
