Wayne State Provides Students & Faculty with Remote Access

Wayne State University’s College of Fine, Performing, and Communication Arts needed a fast way to keep students learning remotely when campus closed during COVID-19. Because many students relied on powerful lab computers to run software like Adobe Creative Suite, Avid Media Composer, Pro Tools, and Autodesk tools, their own laptops and VPN/VDI options were not sufficient. Wayne State turned to Splashtop Business Access to provide remote access to the lab machines.

With Splashtop, students could securely connect to Windows and Mac lab computers from their own devices, including Chromebooks, and use the applications they needed without performance issues. The IT team said deployment and management were easy, and features like file transfer, dual monitors, messaging, and usage logs were especially helpful. The college planned to set up 3,500 students on Splashtop to access 300 lab computers, and early feedback from students, faculty, and IT was very positive.
