Spirent solutions help NTT & Furuno develop pioneering multipath mitigation algorithm

NTT Network Technology Laboratories needed to verify a new multipath mitigation algorithm it developed with Furuno for GNSS timing receivers, a critical component for 5G network synchronization. The challenge was creating a realistic test environment to prove the algorithm's performance against GNSS signal distortion caused by multipath in urban areas, as real-world field testing was impossible without a reliable reference signal.

Using Spirent's GNSS signal simulator and its unique 3D environment modelling software (Sim3D), they simulated realistic street-level multipath conditions in the lab. Spirent's solution enabled verification that the algorithm provided a fivefold increase in timing accuracy, allowing Furuno to confidently bring its fully 5G-compliant receiver to market.
