Spirent brings realistic GNSS signal simulation into Italdesign’s vehicle testing lab

Italdesign, a design and engineering company in the automotive sector, faced the challenge of testing its autonomous vehicle prototypes without the prohibitive cost and legal restrictions of real-world driving. They required a realistic, real-time method to simulate GNSS and RTK signals for hardware-in-the-loop testing within their lab environment, integrating with their existing dSPACE and IPG systems.

Spirent implemented its GSS7000 GNSS simulator along with the SimHIL API to meet this need. This solution provided highly controlled, realistic signals from multiple satellite constellations and integrated seamlessly with Italdesign's platform to ensure low-latency operation. As a result, Italdesign gained a flexible, realistic, and real-time testing environment, allowing them to safely and efficiently evaluate GNSS receiver performance in countless scenarios that were previously impossible or too risky to conduct.
