Satisfying Dongfeng Motor C-V2X HIL Subsystem Requirements and Enabling Autonomous Driving Assistance

Dongfeng Motor Co., Ltd. was developing its autonomous driving assistance systems and needed to test C-V2X technology in its lab. The challenge was performing Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL) verification that required emulating complex, dynamic real-world radio signal conditions, including fading and Doppler effects, across a wide variety of urban, highway, and parking lot scenarios for both vehicle-to-infrastructure (V2I) and vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) communications.

Spirent Communications provided its VERTEX channel emulator platform to address this need. The solution could simulate intricate multi-vehicle scenarios with up to 16 nodes and was integrated into Dongfeng's existing HIL system. The Spirent solutions were easy to use and fully automated, which facilitated quick verifications and significantly reduced the time needed for each test cycle. As a result, Dongfeng Motor quickly achieved its goal of lab-based emulation of complicated C-V2X scenarios.
