Case Study: HTW advances protocol testing education with Spirent TTworkbench

The HTW, a university of applied sciences, faced the challenge of integrating practical protocol testing into its computer science and communications engineering curriculum, as its courses had previously only addressed unit testing. To provide students with hands-on experience, the university sought an educational tool and partnered with Spirent Communications to use their TTworkbench software.

Spirent provided an educational license for TTworkbench, which was easily installed on a terminal server for student access. The solution proved to be highly suitable for teaching; its Eclipse-based environment and integrated examples allowed 13 students to successfully learn TTCN-3 concepts and complete practical exercises. The partnership with Spirent enabled the HTW to offer practice-oriented teaching, and the positive outcome has led to plans for expanding protocol testing courses in the future.
