Thales Alenia Space Italy, working for the Galileo Global Navigation Satellite System, required a highly accurate and flexible radio frequency simulator for the critical Full Operational Capacity phase of testing. Their challenge was to rigorously test all aspects of the GNSS with absolute control and repeatability before satellite launches, needing a solution for accuracy, reliability, and integration with other systems.

The vendor, Spirent Communications, implemented a customized GSS8000 RF Multi-Constellation Simulator. This solution provided the necessary precision, scenario control, and unique R&D functionality required for the project. The results were so successful that Thales Alenia Space Italy purchased a second GSS8000 to double its testing capacity, with the program manager confirming the simulator met all their demanding criteria and worked very well.
