United States National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency wins $425,000 MagQuest award with Spire

The United States National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency (NGA) faced the challenge of ensuring the future sustainability and accuracy of its World Magnetic Model, a critical resource for navigation and defense systems. With the existing data source from the European Space Agency expected to conclude, NGA launched the MagQuest competition to find new solutions. Vendor Spire, in partnership with SBQuantum, submitted a joint proposal for this challenge.

Spire's proposed solution involved deploying a diamond quantum magnetometer system on its 6U CubeSat platform, utilizing its global ground network and cloud-based data processing infrastructure. This approach provided a reliable and secure method for geomagnetic data collection with rapid scalability. As a result, Spire and SBQuantum were awarded a total of $425,000 over the competition's three phases for their joint entry, which tied for second place.
