Spire Partners with Pole Star to Illuminate Dark Waters and Improve Search and Rescue Operations

Pole Star, a global maritime-expertise company, partnered with Spire to improve visibility in dangerous waters and support search and rescue (SAR) and safety-of-life missions for a branch of the U.S. military. Spire provided its nanosatellite constellation and combined satellite, terrestrial and Dynamic™ AIS data to address tracking gaps in polar, remote and high-traffic maritime zones.

Spire’s solution increased global position update rates by 17% and cut data delays in high-traffic zones from several hours to about 15 minutes, while extending coverage above 70°N and across HTZs. By integrating Spire’s feeds with Pole Star’s visualization tools, Pole Star immediately improved real-time situational awareness and SAR triangulation capabilities, enhancing safety-of-life operations and international SAR cooperation for the U.S. military customer.
