SpaceChain goes live on Spire satellites in less than a month

SpaceChain, a company exploring blockchain technology in space, sought to add an extra layer of security and encryption for cryptocurrency transactions and scale their application coverage globally. They partnered with vendor Spire to find a solution that could host their software in orbit.

Spire implemented its solution by uploading SpaceChain's blockchain software onto its existing constellation of over 100 satellites, leveraging its "SABERTOOTH" supercomputing module. This allowed SpaceChain to go live on a global scale in less than a month, successfully completing the first blockchain transaction in space and enabling ultra-secure cryptocurrency payments with security guaranteed by satellite communication.
