Oldendorff Carriers improves fuel model accuracy by 2.5% with Spire

Oldendorff Carriers, one of the world's largest dry bulk shipping companies, was seeking to reduce fuel costs and minimize its carbon footprint. The challenge involved optimizing navigation paths to decrease transit time and fuel consumption while also preparing for new environmental regulations. To address this, they turned to vendor Spire and its weather data service.

By integrating Spire's radio occultation weather data into its simulation models, Oldendorff was able to forecast conditions for potential shipping routes and develop accurate vessel simulations. This solution from Spire resulted in a 2.5% greater accuracy in their fuel consumption models, allowing them to better account for an estimated 5.6 tons of fuel and 17.5 tons of CO2 emissions per voyage.
