NASA expands Earth science research with Spire's 10,000 daily radio occultations

The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) sought to augment its Earth science research capabilities through cost-effective commercial data. Through its Commercial Smallsat Data Acquisition (CSDA) Program, NASA awarded Spire a contract to provide comprehensive Earth observation data to support climate and weather research.

Spire delivered a unique catalog of data from its small-satellite constellation, including atmospheric radio occultation data, surface reflectometry data for measuring sea ice and soil moisture, and space weather data. This solution made Spire's data broadly accessible to U.S. Government-funded researchers, enabling the publication of various research papers and supporting fundamental climate and Earth science research objectives for the benefit of humanity.
