Case Study: Jacobs achieves secure, cost-effective on-orbit payload demonstration with Spire hosted payload services

A Spire Case Study

Jacobs launches 3 hosted payloads with Spire after a successful January 2021 satellite demo

Jacobs sought to test and demonstrate a new commercial space-based AESA payload but found traditional on-orbit testing methods to be expensive and time-consuming. To reduce risk, maintain control, and decrease costs, Jacobs partnered with vendor Spire to utilize its hosted payload services on a 3U satellite bus.

Spire provided a secure, autonomous, end-to-end solution for Jacobs, including a fully encrypted uplink and downlink accessible only to the customer. This cost-effective approach enabled the successful launch of the Jacobs payload in January 2021. As a direct result, Jacobs agreed to launch two additional hosted payloads with Spire to continue supporting its rapid technology iteration.
