Case Study: Myriota achieves global IoT scale and faster bi-directional connectivity with Spire's 'Software in Space'

A Spire Case Study

Preview of the Myriota Case Study

How ‘Software in Space’ can force-multiply the benefits of innovative IoT solutions

Myriota, a global IoT connectivity provider, needed to boost the diversity and robustness of its constellation to achieve minimal latency, more frequent device contacts, and true global reach. To avoid launching dedicated hardware and speed innovation, Myriota partnered with Spire and adopted Spire’s "Software in Space" approach—deploying its network software to existing satellites via programmable SDRs and leveraging Spire’s global ground-station operations platform.

Spire adapted and uploaded Myriota’s software to its LEMUR constellation, used its ground station network and SDRs to collect and relay data, and increased contact frequency and bi‑directional performance. The collaboration delivered rapid scale—from a space‑enabled launch in weeks to a commercially viable solution in four years—expanded coverage across the Americas and Middle East, steadily increased assets, and helped Myriota reach a 40+ satellite IoT constellation by 2026, improving latency, reliability and global reach.
