Case Study: OroraTech accelerates wildfire detection with Spire's satellite data platform

How a new partnership in space is helping to revolutionize wildfire detection and monitoring

OroraTech, a Germany-based satellite wildfire monitoring startup, needed a faster way to detect and monitor wildfires worldwide as climate change increases the frequency and severity of fires. To accelerate its mission, OroraTech partnered with Spire and used Spire’s 6U LEMUR nanosatellite platform to carry its first thermal infrared camera and data processing payload.

Spire launched OroraTech’s FOREST-1 payload in January 2022, enabling the company to demonstrate its wildfire detection technology in space on a reliable nanosatellite platform. The solution helps OroraTech speed up time to market, supports early wildfire detection and response, and lays the groundwork for its future constellation of proprietary satellites, though the case study does not provide specific numeric results.
