Findus Venture GmbH advances space debris detection with Spire’s 100-metre radar

The customer, Findus Venture GmbH, faced the challenge of obtaining detailed data on the growing threat of small, untrackable micro-debris in Low Earth Orbit, which current ground-based systems cannot effectively detect. To address this, they partnered with vendor Spire Global on the ADLER-1 satellite mission.

Spire Global provided its LEMUR satellite platform and a novel short-range radar to detect sub-millimetric debris particles. This solution, which also included a partner's physical impact sensor, successfully demonstrated innovative in-orbit debris detection and data collection technologies on a nanosatellite. The mission provided valuable in-situ data to help study the space debris environment and validate models.
