Successfully using AR and automation to create Efficiencies

Micron Technology, a leading semiconductor manufacturer, faced the challenge of maintaining complex manufacturing operations and navigating disruptions, including those caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. They sought to enhance remote collaboration and workforce productivity to optimize equipment uptime and accelerate new equipment installations. To address this, Micron partnered with vendor Sphere, leveraging their ThinkReality augmented reality platform integrated with holo|one software for use with Microsoft HoloLens 2 wearables.

Sphere implemented a secure remote assistance solution that allowed Micron's on-site engineers to collaborate in real time with remote experts, providing hands-free visual guidance for maintenance and repairs. This solution was deployed in just a few months, enabling Micron to keep installation schedules and routine maintenance on track despite travel restrictions. The results included reduced equipment downtime and maximized use of manufacturing assets. Micron is now expanding the platform to include AR-based standard operating procedures to further boost engineer efficiency and productivity.
