A Sphera Case Study
US Army - Red River Army Depot (RRAD) is a large DoD maintenance and munitions facility that manages thousands of hazardous-material transactions across an 18,000‑acre campus. Faced with complex metal‑working, painting and chemical processes and strict state, federal and military compliance requirements, RRAD adopted Sphera’s Hazardous Materials Management System (HMMS) to gain cradle‑to‑grave visibility and control over materials receipt, inventory, labeling, storage and waste generation.
Sphera’s HMMS Waste and Material Management modules were implemented to track chemicals and waste from pre‑acquisition through disposal, including direct interoperability with DLA shipment records. The result: within a year RRAD eliminated non‑conformances in waste container identification, labeling and inventory management, has tracked thousands of transactions over more than 16 years, and achieved such strong compliance that the State of Texas waived its annual HW inspection in 2010 and 2011; HMMS also surfaced pollution‑prevention opportunities and cost‑saving trends.
