Santee Cooper Empowers Proactive Compliance Strategy and Continuously Improves Environmental Performance

Santee Cooper, South Carolina’s largest state-owned electric and water utility, faced increasing federal, state and local environmental requirements while relying on fragmented manual processes (270+ checklists/forms, 115 spreadsheets) and facing continuity risks from workforce changes. To address this, Santee Cooper selected Sphera’s Essential Suite as part of the Sphera Environmental Performance Solution to serve as an enterprise-wide Environmental Management Information System (EMIS).

Sphera implemented a centralized EMIS for 180+ users, integrating Essential Suite with plant systems (CEMS, LIMS, FMIS), Oracle OBIEE and the company CMS to automate data flows and dashboards. The solution eliminated or partially replaced 43% of legacy checklists/forms, created 3,200+ integration data points, managed more than 5,000 compliance tasks over two years, removed delays in retrieving documentation, improved proactive tasking and employee transition management, and helped Santee Cooper achieve a 96% customer satisfaction rating for environmental management.
