Repsol’s EMISphere Project Leads to Transformational Changes for Enterpriselevel Environmental Compliance

Repsol, a global integrated energy company, faced increasingly stringent European multimedia emissions regulations and relied on disparate, spreadsheet‑driven, facility‑specific processes that were labor intensive and offered limited corporate visibility. To centralize compliance and automate environmental reporting, Repsol launched the EMISphere project and selected Sphera’s Essential environmental information management solution, using Sphera’s Process Data Manager to bring data from PI, LIMS and production systems into a single EMIS.

Sphera implemented an enterprise EMIS that applies 100+ customized business rules, delivers 70+ tailored reports and integrates over 4,000 signals—performing more than 1 million calculations daily and storing about 5 million emissions calculations annually, eliminating hundreds of legacy spreadsheets. The Sphera solution enabled 99% automation of compliance tasks, cut annual air and water reporting from three months to three weeks, improved data traceability and freed HSE teams to focus on QA/QC and improvement initiatives.
