Opening up New Markets and Achieving Corporate Objectives with LCA

Interface, the global market leader in modular textile floor coverings and proponent of Mission Zero, needed to open new markets and reduce environmental and health risks while improving product transparency and cost performance. To support these goals, Interface deployed Sphera’s GaBi life cycle assessment (LCA) software to measure full product life‑cycle impacts and guide sustainable product and process innovation.

Using Sphera’s GaBi LCA, Interface developed TacTiles® and validated Microtuft™ (using ~50% less yarn and representing 13.2% of European sales), identified low‑VOC adhesive alternatives, and produced EPDs for more than 90% of its products. The analyses helped drive a 40% reduction in production energy, a 12% drop in yarn use per unit, a 43% shift to biodegradable/recycled raw materials, reuse of reprocessed nylon with cost savings, and total annual savings of €7.6m since 1996—clear market, environmental and financial results enabled by Sphera.
