Lanxess Corporation Meets Regulatory Demands and Increases Customer Satisfaction with Fast, Flexible Safety Data Sheets

Lanxess, a global specialty chemicals company responsible for thousands of products across North America and worldwide, faced the challenge of meeting new and evolving regulatory requirements (including OSHA GHS, OSHA Hazcom, EPA FIFRA and EU CLP), authoring SDSs in 39 languages, and responding rapidly to customer requests. To address this, Lanxess standardized on Sphera Intelligent Authoring and engaged Sphera’s Product Stewardship services for SDS authoring and managed regulatory content.

Using Sphera’s solution, Lanxess customized SDS content (including country-specific GHS classifications and section 15), automated multilingual SDS generation and distribution, and centralized regulatory content management. As a result—powered by Sphera—Lanxess accelerated GHS compliance (60% of new SDSs and labels completed nine months ahead of the deadline), maintained and updated ~4,000 U.S. products plus thousands more for Canada/Mexico in 39 languages with just five authors and one contractor, distributed 120,000+ SDSs companywide in 2013, and increased customer satisfaction through faster, more consistent safety information.
