Increasing productivity and building credibility with transparent energy and greenhouse gas management

Meridian, New Zealand’s largest renewable electricity generator, faced stakeholder pressure to improve the accuracy and credibility of its energy and greenhouse gas (GHG) reporting. Their spreadsheet-based GHG accounting was slow, error-prone and limited, while Meridian sought to maintain CEMARS reporting and adopt the new Corporate Value Chain (Scope 3) Standard to report more emissions sources. To address these challenges Meridian engaged Sphera and its SoFi Enterprise Sustainability Performance solution.

Sphera implemented the SoFi Enterprise Sustainability Performance solution, replacing spreadsheets with a single web-based, role-based data repository, extending reporting to additional Scope 3 sources, and streamlining auditing and reporting workflows. The Sphera deployment delivered a 50% improvement in productivity by cutting data collection, analysis and reporting time, improved auditability and reduced auditing costs, and positioned Meridian to meet voluntary and mandatory reporting requirements with more credible, auditable GHG data.
