Cummins Inc. Monitors, Enforces and Eliminates Use of Substances Across Worldwide Operations

Cummins Inc, a global power leader with roughly 40,000 employees and a presence in more than 190 countries, needed to enforce a corporate list of 50 prohibited substances across its worldwide operations. The challenge was to screen more than 16,000 SDSs amid outdated or partially disclosed ingredient data, ongoing procurement of potentially restricted materials, and the need to monitor and filter SDS uploads into a centralized management system. To address this, Cummins partnered with Sphera and deployed Sphera’s Comply Plus SDS Management System.

Sphera implemented Comply Plus across 72 sites in 16 languages, adding SDS management, material request/approval workflows and SDS content services with list‑matching and real‑time reporting. Sphera’s solution allowed Cummins Inc to identify prohibited substances in over 16,000 SDSs, cut prohibited-chemical uploads from 20% to 4.6%, reduce reporting time from weeks or months to a few clicks, improve REACH compliance, and empower site-level preventive actions.
