CenterPoint Energy Streamlines GHG Management to Meet New Regulatory Compliance, Voluntary Reporting Goals

CenterPoint Energy, a Houston-based energy delivery company, faced rising regulatory and voluntary reporting demands for greenhouse gas (GHG) and air emissions—including the EPA’s Mandatory Reporting Rule and Carbon Disclosure Project requirements—while relying on hundreds of disparate spreadsheets. To modernize its enterprise-level Environmental Management System (EMS) and reduce compliance risk, CenterPoint Energy selected Sphera’s Essential Suite as part of the Sphera Environmental Performance Solution.

Sphera implemented Essential Suite integrated with Sphera CyberRegs to centralize permits, equipment, tasks and regulatory content, enable mobile single-point data entry, and automate alerts. The Sphera solution eliminated hundreds of spreadsheets, cut GHG reporting time from 2–3 months to about 2 weeks (with another 2–3 months of air-reporting savings projected), sped ad hoc reporting from days to minutes, and delivered GHG metrics for CenterPoint Energy’s annual report and CDP submissions.
